Tottenham Hotspur have extended Oliver Skipp’s contract and there are many within the club excited to see him play alongside Rodrigo Bentancur.

This is according to The Athletic’s Spurs correspondent, Charlie Eccleshare, who was speaking on the latest episode of The View From The Lane podcast.

Who would you prefer to play alongside Bentancur?

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Skipp put pen to paper earlier this week on an improved deal seeing his future confirmed until 2027, however, he has been unable to take to the pitch since January.

The 21-year-old has been sidelined since late January with a pelvic injury which he does not currently have a return date for having recently endured a setback in training.

Since Skipp’s injury, Spurs added Bentancur who has become a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s XI, leaving many at the club excited by the duo’s potential partnership to come:

(21:00) “I mean, at the club, there is a lot of excitement of that Skipp/Bentancur partnership. Part of it, you know, obviously, we’ve never seen it. So there’s an element of the unknown about it.

“But yeah, I mean, there was a period that and I’m told, you know, you always have to be a little sceptical of the amount of causality and correlation within this. But the win-loss ratios were so steeply different when Skipp was playing, and when he wasn’t.”

TIF Thoughts on Eccleshare’s comments…

We can certainly appreciate where the excitement is coming from given Bentancur has had a big impact on the side since arriving with Skipp a regular in Conte’s XI before picking up the injury.

And there will always be some level of romanticism with seeing an academy product come through the ranks and there are definitely high expectations within Spurs for Skipp.

However, it is worth noting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s form has improved recently meaning it may not be a formality for Skipp to slot straight back into the XI the he returns.
