Journalist Dean Jones has stated that he believes Rangers could make a couple of ‘statement’ signings in the summer transfer window.

The past week has been a pretty good one for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men. First, they squeezed past Braga in the Europa League to book a spot in the competition’s semi-finals, before they went and won the Old Firm 2-1 at Hampden Park.

Despite that, there is no guarantee that they will end the campaign with any silverware – while rivals Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup this season.

Regardless of how things turn out by the end of the year, the summer will afford the Gers an opportunity to reset and set up a new plan under the manager.

Will Rangers make some high-profile transfers this summer?

While speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones explained how he thinks the club can gain an advantage on their rivals and ‘get back ahead’ of Celtic.

He said: “I think the most interesting thing is going to be how Rangers go into this next transfer window because I’ve got a feeling that they might make a statement with a couple of signings. To be honest, that’s all it takes to get back ahead of Celtic.”

TIF Thoughts on Rangers and the transfer market…

Interestingly enough, Rangers have recently been linked with one man who would certainly be a statement signing. Indeed, Spanish media have reported supposed interest in Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

While a deal like that might seem pretty far-fetched, the club did of course pull off the impressive coup of Bale’s Wales teammate and Juventus man Aaron Ramsey on loan in January – so perhaps such a move wouldn’t be entirely out of the question.

With a while to go before we get to the summer window, it remains to be seen as to how Rangers plan to approach the transfer market. But if Jones’ claim comes true, it could be a pretty exciting time for the supporters.
