Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed although there will be pressure on Giovanni van Bronckhorst this afternoon against Celtic, the Dutch manager will not be sacked.

Rangers sit second in the Scottish Premiership and the recent defeat against Celtic in the Old Firm derby saw the deficit at the top of the table extended to six points with the Hoops also having a better goal difference than their rivals.

Rangers match up against Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, and there will be a lot of pressure on Van Bronckhorst, because if the Hoops do progress into the final of the competition, then there could be a very good chance that they would win the treble – halving already won the League Cup.

Whilst speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Michael Bridge highlighted the pressure that Van Brockhorst will be under ahead of the Old Firm derby tomorrow afternoon:

“That’ll be damaging for Van Bronckhorst if he loses that as well because that means Celtic are probably going to win the treble. So, he’ll have a bit of pressure on him, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think he’ll get sacked,” Bridge said.

TIF Thoughts on Michael Bridge’s comments…

Rangers were four points clear at the top of the SPFL when Van Bronckhorst was introduced to the club, following Steven Gerrard’s exit. But now it seems likely that the gap may be too large to claw back.

However, Van Bronckhorst has had just one transfer window to work with, and that has been his only opportunity to bring in his players to suit his system, so he may well be given some more time in the summer and then the board can track his progress after two transfer windows.

There will be pressure for Rangers to win today as it would be deemed a failure of a season if they come away from it with no silverware.
