Chris Sutton has been speaking on the Record Celtic podcast about how the Bhoys could still be without big player Giorgos Giakoumakis this weekend.

The Greece international was absent for Celtic’s Old Firm defeat in the cup last weekend, which saw them miss out on the chance to complete yet another treble, something Ange Postecoglou would have likely loved to do in his debut season.

Who suits Celtic better?

Giakoumakis!

Giakoumakis!

Kyogo!

Kyogo!

After just one goal in his first six league games for Celtic, Giakoumakis appears to have found his feet and form with the Bhoys, having netted seven goals in his last five league outings, including two hat-tricks, with one of them coming in a crucial 3-2 win against Dundee.

However, Sutton is not overly confident that Giakoumakis will be back fit for this weekend and that could be a huge blow as he’s so key to what Celtic do.

He said: “We don’t know whether Giakoumakis is fit or not. I think he’s a big deal for Celtic in these last five games or so. I know Kyogo is back in, but I think that his physicality and the way that he moves in the box and just giving Celtic a different dimension, he’s key.”

TIF Thoughts on Giakoumakis…

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

Postecoglou has been able to call upon Giakoumakis often this season in important moments, especially when fellow attacker Kyogo Furuhashi has spent a prolonged period of time out on the sidelines, but now it appears that roles have been reversed with the former injured and the latter returning to action.

As Sutton pointed out, going with someone like Kyogo over Giakoumakis will potentially force Postecoglou into changing the way Celtic go about their business this weekend against Ross County as they are very different in size and stature, with the Japan international being a lot smaller and thus less of a physical presence, meaning defences won’t feel as pinned back than when they face Giakoumakis.
