Pundit and former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that having Adam Forshaw back for the remainder of the season will be huge for the Whites.

Forshaw was sidelined due to injury for Leeds’ game against Watford, but there have been reports claiming that he should be back in the squad for Monday night’s clash against Crystal Palace. Leeds are still in a relegation battle as they sit just two places above the drop zone and have played more games than some of the sides below them following their weekend result.

Forshaw has been a mainstay in the Leeds side this season, as in the Premier League he has featured 22 times for his side – perhaps more than he would have expected at the start of the campaign – but due to injuries, he has seen his game time increased.

With the amount of football Forshaw has played this term, Robinson highlighted to MOT Leeds News how much of a boost it is to have him back in the side for the remainder of the season.

He said: “It’ll be a big boost to have him back in between now and the end of the season, [Mateusz] Klich and [Robin] Koch started as the two holding midfielders [against Watford], I was surprised Kalvin didn’t start the game but obviously, they didn’t think he was ready. But having Kalvin and Forshaw back in the team for the run-in gives them a much better opportunity of survival.”

TIF Thoughts on Paul Robinson’s comments…

Leeds have suffered from severe injury woes this season, especially to key players such as Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper. With the absence of Phillips, Leeds have been short in midfield and have had to play natural defender Robin Koch next to Forshaw on several occasions.

Although Leeds are in the relegation battle, they are in a good position compared to their competitors as they are currently eight points clear of the bottom three, albeit their rivals have had games in hand in midweek, but the Whites are currently four games unbeaten, and getting Phillips and Forshaw back in the heart of the midfield could be enough to ensure safety judging by Robinson’s upbeat remarks.
