Image for Celtic: Fans will be raging as Calvin Bassey looks offside for Old Firm goal

Many Celtic fans may well be fuming this morning after seeing an image appear from their recent Old Firm loss.

Sadly, for the Bhoys, their Scottish Cup campaign came to an end over the weekend as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Hampden Park.

After goals from Greg Taylor and Scott Arfield had taken the game to extra time, Carl Starfelt was the guilty party as he deflected a Calvin Bassey cross into his own net.

Was Calvin Bassey offside for Rangers' winning goal?

However, an image has emerged that suggests the Rangers man may well have been offside during the build-up to the goal.

Indeed, a picture shared on Twitter shows Bassey potentially ahead of the final Celtic defender as he receives the ball from Ryan Kent before crossing it in to force the own goal.

TIF Thoughts on Celtic and the loss…

Interestingly enough, this was not the only incident in the game that left big question marks over the standard of officiating.

Indeed, Bobby Madden faced heavy scrutiny from FootballScotland for his inability to take control of the intense game. It was pointed out that Kemar Roofe was lucky to not get sent off for a ‘horror’ foul on Daizen Maeda, while they also challenged his decision to give Rangers a free-kick seemingly because David Turnbull has taken a set piece for the Bhoys too quickly.

Pundit Chris Sutton certainly felt upset by the referee’s display. After the match, he said on Twitter that ‘Bobby Madden turned in one of the worst refereeing performances’ he’d seen in Scotland for some time.

Considering the multitude of errors, it’s easy to understand why some Celtic supporters would be feeling pretty angry right now, and given the image appears to show Bassey offside before the winning goal, you can hardly blame them for being in a sour mood today.

Give it a rest! We lost because we were terrible from start to finish! Not because there were bad decisions, biased calls or because we were playing a good side!
We lost to a very average ten year old club.
The defeat was in my eyes, akin to any other “Giant-killing” defeat we have suffered at the hands of the likes of Caley Thistle, Ross County, Raith Rovers, Morton and now, Sevco.
They had their “Gretna” moment. A very young club who’s season has been made because they killed off the Giant!
    Take a pill!
