Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

The 24-year-old has been praised by his coach, with Postecoglou saying how impressed he’s been with him on and off the pitch, stating in a press conference back in February: “His footballing sort of speaks for itself, he’s really consistent and improving all the time and even as a person, I think he’s fit in really well with the group.”

It now looks like the Bhoys will push to sign the American defender on a permanent basis in the summer once the transfer window opens, and here at TIF, we have looked at what this could mean for the club.

Statement of intent

Winning the signature of a highly rated youngster like Carter-Vickers against Premier League competition of Wolves, Leicester City and Watford is a huge statement of intent from the Scottish team as they will prove they can compete with a bigger money-making league.

They have a lot to offer a player like Carter-Vickers, as they have a wonderful culture around the club, a winning future and a history that is respected around the world of football while having the bonus of playing in club football’s biggest competition, the Champions League.

Will Carter-Vickers be great at Celtic?

No

In recent years, Celtic have had to deal with selling some of their best assets like Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Dembele, who left for Premier League side Crystal Palace for £14m and Ligue 1 side Lyon for £19.8m respectively.

This kind of move from Celtic could be the first of many and could see a change in the tide in where players decide to spend their best years, rather than the primary or twilight years of their careers.

Celts get a bargain

Reports are suggesting Celtic could acquire the services of Carter-Vickers for a deal of £6m that could rise to £10m – a tremendous bargain for a player of his talent and the inflated transfer market of today.

With other English Premier League defenders like Ben White (£50m) and Kurt Zouma (£30m) going for significantly more in the summer, getting a cheaper deal like this could look like a masterstroke if Carter-Vickers continues his fine start to life at Parkhead.

In the future, they can use the money he could have cost spread around the squad, and if his progression continues for the next few seasons, they could sell him on for a heftier price that would see Celtic take a huge profit on the player.

Moving for Carter-Vickers at this price is a win-win for the team, as they get a starting defender for a low price who they could sell on for significantly more, and if it doesn’t work out, they haven’t mortgaged their future on this one signing.
