Despite Everton losing 2-0 at the weekend, Anthony Gordon was still one of the biggest talking points – something he’s reacted to on Instagram.

Everton were comfortably beaten in the Merseyside derby as they only registered 17% of the possession and had a sole shot on target, which highlights that they perhaps didn’t deserve to take anything from the game, which has seen them drop into the bottom three.

Should Gordon have been awarded a penalty?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Gordon was the star of the show for Everton, being handed a 7/10 from the Liverpool Echo in their player ratings, though he was never far from controversy, with the winger being booked for simulation in the first half before being bundled over by Joel Matip in the second – though it was not enough to warrant a penalty, according to Stuart Attwell.

There has been a lot of talk about Gordon’s actions in the Merseyside derby, with Luke Edwards of The Telegraph claiming that the winger needs to learn that divers never prosper, and Gordon has clearly taken the criticism seriously, posting two photos of himself seemingly being fouled on Instagram, with the caption: ‘Goes down too easily.’

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

This isn’t the first message Anthony Gordon has dropped either as he wasn’t happy live on Sky Sports and dropped the facepalm emoji on Instagram.

It will be very frustrating for such a young player to be in the eye of the media for many wrong reasons after playing in a heated derby and being told he has to stop diving, despite the push from Matip in the box appearing to be rather clear-cut.

While the winger can likely have few complaints about the booking he picked up for simulation as there was no contact – or very little for the theatrical jump that preceded it – but a media outlet focusing on the negatives of a young promising English talent is what could hamper him going forward.
