Celtic sent down a marker to their challengers as they took a huge step towards the Scottish Premiership title after an emphatic victory over St Johnstone.

Reo Hatate opened the scoring for Ange Postecoglou’s side, then Giorgos Giakoumakis made it 2-0 to the Hoops. Japanese international Daizen Maeda then found the back of the net before Josip Juranovic converted from the spot. Matt O’Riley’s quickfire brace then made it 6-0 before the seventh was added by Liel Abada to complete the scoring and a dominant performance.

As you could imagine, after such a busy and successful day for the Hoops, there were plenty of talking points from the game, with journalist John McGinley noticing what Josip Juranovic did after the goals.

He took to Twitter to respond to Celtic’s video around the goals, saying: “What a character Josip Juranovic is. Heavily involved in every celebration, making sure every goalscorer feels pure great about themselves. Loves his teammates, loves playing for Celtic!”

TIF thoughts on John McGinley’s comments…

Indeed, the fact that Juranovic is so involved and clearly loving life at Celtic bodes well ahead of the summer transfer window, as the versatile Croatian was linked with a move away back in February. That sort of togetherness that McGinley mentions is vital for any successful team. If the players are together as one, it makes it easier to get results, even when you’re not at your best as you pull through for one another and do what you can to help your teammates.

Which season did Roy Keane join the Hoops?

Celtic now surely have one hand on the title, going nine points clear, although Rangers do have a game in hand. The nature of the win too sends a clear message that they’re up for the fight and aren’t going to falter at the final hurdle, putting the pressure back on the team chasing.
