Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers may have to cash in on Ruben Neves in the summer if the price is right.

Ruben Neves has been a loyal servant to Wolves for the past five seasons after he was signed from FC Porto in 2017 for £16.11 million. He has made 207 appearances in all competitions across the five seasons for his side, according to Transfermarkt.

The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window, and this deal may look even more likely if Wolves fail to qualify for the Europa League this season.

After Manchester United have shown interest in Neves, Pete O’Rourke highlighted to GIVEMESPORT that Bruno Lage may have to cash in on him in the summer.

“There are fears obviously that Wolves might have to end up cashing in on Neves this summer. He’s been such a good servant to them as well. He’s helped them establish themselves in the Premier League,” O’Rourke said.

With the reports of a move away from Molineux for Ruben Neves, we noted two knock-on effects for Wolves if they were to lose their key man.

Will Ruben Neves leave in the summer?

Yes

No

No

Huge loss for Bruno Lage

Neves has been a mainstay in the midfield since he signed for Wolves in 2017, he has featured over 35 times in each of the last three Premier League seasons for his side, and was named in the Championship team of the season in his first campaign in England.

In this Premier League campaign, for Wolves, Neves has the highest average player rating (7.2), has the second-highest amount of accurate passes per game on average (50), and has the highest accurate long passes on average per game (6.1), as per Sofascore.

With Neves dominating the stats for Wolves this campaign, we feel he would be a huge loss for Lage if he was to depart in the summer and it would leave Lage with a massive task of trying to replace him in the summer window.

Chance for Morgan Gibbs-White?

Morgan Gibbs-White has failed to complete a full season of regular first-team football for Wolves, his most capped campaign came in the 2018/19 season, where he made 26 appearances but 21 of those came from the bench.

The 22-year-old midfielder was sent on loan to Sheffield United in the Championship at the start of this season and has impressed after he has scored nine goals and registered seven assists in 31 league games.

If Neves was to leave the club in the summer then we think this could be the chance for Gibbs-White to stamp his mark in the Wolves first-team, given he has impressed during his loan spell with the Blades this campaign.
