Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge has told GiveMeSport that Matt Doherty could be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur.

Doherty had been experiencing a renaissance under Antonio Conte at Tottenham in recent times before a cruel knee injury hit him and brought his season to a premature end – something that will be a blow for the defender, who was certainly enjoying the best form of his Spurs career.

Should Spurs sell Matt Doherty?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Doherty had started seven Premier League games in a row, so was clearly a big part behind Spurs’ recent form and their surge up the table into the Champions League spots, having also kept four clean sheets, as well as netting twice and registering three assists in that time.

Bridge has spoken to GiveMeSport about Doherty and his future, which may come as a surprise given his recent form. The Sky Sports man had this to say: “I feel that one of Doherty or [Emerson] Royal won’t be at the club next season, I think Spurs will look to add someone in that position. Playing for their futures might be a bit strong, but Spurs will look to add someone.”

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

Doherty, who is one of Harry Kane’s close ‘buddies’ with all their golfing trips, had been having a tough time of things since arriving from Wolves in 2020, but after playing under three permanent managers, Conte appeared to finally be getting a tune out of the wing-back, so his injury has come at such a cruel time, just as Spurs are looking to bring someone new in that position, as Bridge revealed.

The Republic of Ireland international will have to hope that whatever he showed Conte in these last few games was enough to prove he’s good enough to start or at least play a rotational role with a new right wing-back potentially arriving in a few months’ time.
