Tottenham Hotspur need to offload young winger Jack Clarke this summer, according to journalist Rob Guest.

The Spurs correspondent was writing for Football.london ahead of the summer transfer window about who Spurs should look to keep, loan and sell.

Should Clarke be sold in the summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And Clarke is one of the players that Guest feels must move on in the summer, having failed to find his feet in north London after signing from Leeds United in 2019.

It certainly has been a difficult period for the 21-year-old since joining Spurs, with just four appearances for the senior side across all competitions.

Including a brief return to Leeds after initially signing, Clarke has now departed Spurs four times on loan, and Guest believes it is a sign his future perhaps lies elsewhere.

He wrote: “Clarke elected to remain at the club at the start of the season and fight for his place, but only ended up featuring in one Europa Conference League game. Now on loan with League One side Sunderland, the winger has done well at the Stadium of Light and will be intent on helping them to promotion come May.

“As he will enter the final year of his contract this summer, he needs to be moved on permanently.”

TIF Thoughts on Guest’s comments…

We absolutely agree with Guest. The signing of Clarke felt like a strange addition at the time given Spurs spent almost £10m and was the signing to break an 18-month transfer drought.

Since signing, there has been little to suggest he has much of a chance to break into the plans of the north London team and has even struggled in the form of scoring and assisting with League One side Sunderland, although it appears it has been a positive spell for him nevertheless.

Having spent £10m on the 21-year-old three years ago, we do wonder how much Spurs will be able to reclaim for his services, but we agree it is necessary for all parties to find a new side for Clarke.

With the youngster believed to have impressed Jose Mourinho during his spell in charge of the Lilywhites, perhaps he will find his feet at another club.
