Journalist Keith Downie has said that Kieran Trippier is set to return to the matchday squad in a couple of weeks for Newcastle United.

Trippier was enjoying life back in the Premier League with the Magpies, as he is yet to lose a game in the Premier League with his new side, but unfortunately, he broke a bone in his foot against Aston Villa, which has seen him sidelined since.

The English right-back’s introduction at the club was the catalyst of some much-needed good form, as following his debut in the Premier League, the Magpies went eight games unbeaten.

With Trippier missing eight games due to injury, Downie gave an update on his potential return to the matchday squad whilst speaking to GiveMeSport.

He said: “With Trippier, I think the plan would be for him to be back, by the sounds of it, for the Norwich match. He’ll miss Leicester on Easter Sunday, very unlikely [to feature] against Palace on the Wednesday, it comes close after it.

“Potentially for Norwich on the 23rd. So, a couple of weeks away.”

TIF Thoughts on Keith Downie’s comments…

Trippier signed with Newcastle for £12m in January and has arguably already proved his worth in a Magpies shirt. So far in the Premier League, he has scored two free-kicks in four games, while making an average of 3.5 tackles per game and recording an average match rating of 7.67 in the top flight, as per SofaScore.

Newcastle have recently experienced a slight blip in form, winning just one out of their previous four Premier League games, which included a 5-1 thrashing against Spurs. So the return for Trippier would be a huge boost for Eddie Howe.

The Magpies are all but safe in terms of relegation this season, and Trippier could be the man to spur his side on to ensure their Premier League status ahead of next season.
