Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make inroads into their hunt for Champions League football as they entertain Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It wasn’t an ideal start for Antonio Conte’s side, falling behind to a free-kick from Fabian Schar after 39 minutes. It wasn’t an unbelievable strike, with Hugo Lloris, who is valued at £6 million (as per Transfermarkt), being questioned heavily for not keeping the shot out.

Schar hit the free kick to Lloris’ side of the goal, with the French captain disappointingly letting it find the back of the net. Pundits and journalists were left frustrated with Lloris, with Freddie Paxton slamming him: “Hugo Lloris has got to be one of the most overrated footballers ever.”

Lloris’ blushes were spared just before the break when Ben Davies levelled the scores with his first goal since September 2017 in the Premier League, flicking Heung-Min Son’s cross beyond Martin Dubravka. It got better for Spurs and Lloris as just three minutes into the second period Matt Doherty nodded home from close range and they then went on to grab a couple more.

The Spurs ‘keeper is an incredibly experienced player, winning a World Cup with France and was playing game number 35 of the season for Tottenham, showing his importance to the side. You’d expect he’ll be able to call on his wealth of experience to keep his concentration for the second half should he be called upon.

Antonio Conte’s side are hanging on to Arsenal’s coattails in the hunt for the top four, but before the game Spurs had an extra game played and a three point deficit to be made up, so know they need to be near enough perfect should they have any chance of making the Champions League next season.
