Leeds United take on Crystal Palace on Monday night, with the team selection throwing up plenty of debate amongst supporters and journalists.

Whites-focused journalist Beren Cross has been looking at the potential starting XI for Monday night, with Kalvin Phillips already confirmed to be starting by Jesse Marsch.

Do you think Leeds United will spend big in the summer?

That still leaves 10 positions up for grabs, with Cross assessing whether or not he would be playing Joe Gelhardt. The journalist took to Twitter to share his preview article on the game, saying the following about the young forward:

Phillips confirmed to start by Marsch already, but wonder if there are any other changes on the cards. Defence was praised again for Watford display. Gelhardt surely too short of match sharpness.

TIF Thoughts on Leeds United and Gelhardt…

Gelhardt has two goals and three assists in his 14 Premier League outings for the Whites this season, usually having to rely on making an impact from the bench.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

You can see why Cross would be worried about the young forward’s sharpness. He hasn’t played 90 minutes in the league since the middle of December against Arsenal – his only full game to date, too.

The journalist also opted against handing Gelhardt a starting place in his predicted lineup, so he clearly feels that the lack of minutes as of late for the striker is enough to keep him away from the starting XI.

Heading into the weekend, Leeds only have a five-point cushion to the drop zone, so Monday’s game is huge as Marsch looks to guide the Elland Road outfit to another year at the top table of English football.
