Tottenham Hotspur will have to wait if they are to pursue their reported interest in former midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has made it clear on his Here We Go podcast that the Danish midfielder is not looking ahead to the summer transfer window yet despite his contract running out at the end of the season.

It is believed the north London club are monitoring the possibility of bringing Eriksen back to Hotspur Way in the summer, with Antonio Conte looking for a new playmaker.

The Dane spent six and a half seasons in north London, where he racked up over 300 games across all competitions with 159 goal involvements to his name (via Transfermarkt).

And he has shown signs of refinding his best form within just six appearances for Brentford with a goal and two assists, and Romano believes he is fully focused on the task at hand in west London, for now.

He said: “The answer I’m always receiving on Eriksen’s side is he’s not deciding now, in April, he’s not deciding in May, he wants to wait for the end of the season.

“And then to speak with Brentford as priority, to meet with Brentford and then speak with them as a matter of respect and then to make a decision on his future.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

We will be really intrigued to see how Eriksen’s future pans out in the summer, with the 30-year-old set to become a free agent once again having been released by Inter.

The tragic scenes at the European Championship last year will obviously have cast doubt over whether Eriksen could even play again, however, the early signs have been extremely positive.

And we will be interested to see if he looks to repay Brentford for the opportunity they provided him or whether he will seek a higher standard – which could potentially be back in N17.
