Gary Neville has been speaking on his podcast about how Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has not been anything great.

Tottenham have now won six of their last seven league games, which has seen them leapfrog a whole host of teams and into the Champions League spots, but with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester City still to come, their spot in the competition next season is far from confirmed.

Will Spurs finish in the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Prior to this great run of form, Antonio Conte’s side had won just once in the Premier League in a run of five matches, so it is very impressive how the Italian and his players have been able to turn it around in a very short period of time.

However, not everybody has been impressed, with Neville putting a lot of Spurs’ good form and ability to get into the top four down to other teams’ poor results.

He said: “I don’t think they’ve been spectacular in this last couple of months, but they’re almost growing out of the very recent run of Arsenal and Arsenal starting to drop points, and what Manchester United are doing.

“When you’re starting to play a little well and the other teams are dropping points, you grow even more, and I think that’s what’s happening with Tottenham, I don’t think anything spectacular is happening there.”

For Neville to say nothing spectacular is happening is not fair on the Spurs players or Antonio Conte given where they were just a few months ago – seemingly so far away from challenging for a top-four place when Conte was claiming that he might not be so good as a manager.

However, there’s no getting away from the fact that the recent collapse from their top-four rivals has certainly aided Spurs, but they have had to capitalise on others’ mistakes, which they have done emphatically by scoring 14 goals and conceding just two in their previous four league matches.

This isn’t the first time that Spurs have been unfairly commented on, as Graeme Souness was quick to dampen Tottenham’s spirits after their recent 4-0 win over Aston Villa as he claimed that they ‘got away with it’, rather than giving Conte’s side praise for managing to get the win.
