Tottenham Hotspur fans surely won’t be happy with what Graeme Souness has said live on Sky Sports about their side’s latest win.

Spurs managed to record their four successive win with Antonio Conte’s side now the firm front runners to clinch the fourth and final Champions League spot with their rivals Arsenal having slipped to a second defeat in a row with Brighton picking up three points at the Emirates.

Did Spurs get lucky vs Villa?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Conte’s side have now scored 14 goals in their last four league matches and that’s happened with their star striker Harry Kane getting on the scoresheet just once in those matches, but not everybody has been impressed with Tottenham’s latest display at Villa Park.

Souness, who spoke after the full-time whistle said ‘for me, they got away with it today’ hinting that Spurs were lucky to come away with three points, despite scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet away from home.

TIF Thoughts on Souness’ comments…

The former Liverpool manager may have a slight point with Aston Villa finishing the game with an XG of 1.6 compared to Spurs 1.0 and Hugo Lloris was forced into a mammoth eight saves during the game, but to score four goals with such a low XG just shows that Conte had a plan for his side that was carried out to perfection.

He may have a valid point in terms of the first half but it’s unfair to discredit a team who have come away with such a huge win, especially as it’s not Spurs’ fault that the Villans couldn’t finish their chances.

This isn’t the first time that Souness has been negative towards Spurs as he didn’t understand why Antonio Conte went to north London in the first place, as well as slamming Spurs and Harry Kane on different occasions.

With just eight games left in the Premier League for Tottenham, it’s now at the business end of the season and that means all matters is results and performances become secondary because it’s pointless playing well and good football if they can’t win games and for Spurs, they are hitting top form at just the right time.

Sounds? Sour grapes because he wasn’t good enough to get a contract to stay with Spurs. He takes every opportunity to criticise the club. Spurs played the Conte way – wear out the opposition in the first half and then take over the reins in the second half.
