Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur loan man Giovani Lo Celso on the Here We Go podcast.

Lo Celso is currently Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth-most expensive signing in the club’s history, but has certainly not lived up to his £28.8m price tag with just one goal and three assists across 55 league appearances.

Should Spurs sell Lo Celso this summer?

The midfielder may have hoped to kickstart his Spurs career under Antonio Conte, but after zero starts in the league, Lo Celso was loaned out to Villarreal, who have just knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League, with the Argentinian picking up the Man of the Match award in the first leg.

Romano has revealed where Spurs stand when it comes to the future of Lo Celso.

He said: “Lo Celso is doing very well on loan and was Man of the Match in the Champions League between Villarreal and Bayern Munich [first-leg], but Tottenham are still waiting on Villarreal to make an official proposal.

“From what I’m told, they want to discuss on Villarreal’s side with Tottenham to sign Lo Celso on a permanent deal or to keep the player for one more season, but Tottenham want real money.”

TIF Thoughts on Lo Celso’s Spurs’ future…

It’s no surprise that Villarreal are keen on bringing Lo Celso back next season after featuring in every game across all competitions since his arrival, and last night will have only enhanced his reputation after a great pass to get the La Liga outfit on a counter-attack to score the winning goal on aggregate.

However, with Lo Celso performing well out in Spain, Spurs will likely demand a hefty fee given the midfielder is still under contract until 2025, so it will be a long summer for Lo Celso if Villarreal are wanting a loan deal and Tottenham prefer a straight sale.
