TalkSport pundit Darren Bent was left shocked by what Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch had to say about Marcelo Bielsa and how he left the squad.

Marsch joined radio station TalkSport to speak about all things Leeds United since he was appointed as Marcelo Bielsa’s successor, which is turning out to be an inspired decision by the board, with the American having his side on a current four-game unbeaten run and nine points above the bottom three.

Who would you rather have as manager?

Marsch!

Bielsa!

Bielsa!

However, listeners and pundits of TalkSport may have got more than what they bargained for when Marsch began speaking about the state and situation his squad were in when he first took over from Bielsa.

The American, who was speaking about his players and the unfortunate injuries a lot of them have picked up, said: “The injury issue had a lot, to me, to do with the training methodologies. These players were overtrained, right? And it led to them being physically, mentally, psychologically, emotionally in a difficult place to recover from week to week, from game to game.”

It’s safe to say that these comments left Bent stunned, to say the least, with the pundit pictured with his mouth wide open.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

TIF Thoughts on Marsch’s comments…

It may be quite a difficult video for Leeds fans to watch, given the hero status that former manager Bielsa has within their fanbase for getting them out of the Championship, but the fact that Marsch has come in and strung together an impressive set of results with the exact same players does point towards a flaw in Bielsa’s approach.

For Marsch to speak very openly and honestly about what he walked into at Leeds should be refreshing for everyone to hear as he doesn’t appear scared or intimidated by following in the footsteps of Bielsa – something that should very much be applauded.
