Alan Shearer has picked Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Guimaraes was handed his first start at St James’ Park since joining the club, with Eddie Howe forced into a reshuffle in the midfield as Joe Willock was ruled out with a knee injury, although that didn’t turn out to be too big of an issue for the Magpies.

Was £40 million a good price for Guimaraes?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Guimaraes, who was signed for £40m in January, was a dominant force in the middle of the pitch for Howe’s side, only misplacing six passes, completing 100% of his dribbles and having the most touches of any Newcastle player that wasn’t a defender (FBRef).

This led Newcastle legend Alan Shearer to label him as his ‘MOTM’ against Wolves and thus, has ended up in the pundit’s Premier League Team of the Week.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

TIF Thoughts on Guimaraes…

When Bruno Guimaraes first arrived at Newcastle United, he spoke very little English, however, such is his dedication to become more accustomed to the country he is now playing in and to help communicate with his teammates, the midfielder is taking an English lesson every single day – and it’s paying off, as he did parts of his pre-match interview with NUFC TV in English.

If it wasn’t for VAR intervening, Guimaraes would have got an assist on Friday evening when Chris Wood swooped the ball home, and after picking up the Man of the Match award against Wolves, it appears that Howe will now have a very tough time dropping him from the starting lineup going forward.

It wasn’t just Shearer who noticed Guimaares’ star performance, with Lee Ryder handing him a 10/10 in his player ratings for his display on Friday.
