Newcastle United’s new owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi caught the attention of journalist Lee Ryder on Friday night after their win at home to Wolves.
The Magpies were 1-0 victors on Friday Night Football thanks to Chris Wood. The January recruit was on hand to convert a penalty after 72 minutes to ensure that Eddie Howe’s side took maximum points to take another step towards safety.

The change in fortunes since Howe and the new owners have come in has seen the mood around the club change, with the owners and manager appearing to have a good relationship. Lee Ryder from The Chronicle was keen to mention what he saw on Friday night after the game.
In his report, he had the following to say: “Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi embraced Eddie Howe after the stadium cleared and the dust was settling on a huge victory.
The sight of the Ripon financier and her husband heading down to the dressing room area is not unusual these days at St James’ Park, but after Howe had finished with his television interview duties, the co-owners met at the front of the tunnel and it was big hugs all round. This time it felt extra significant as Newcastle nudged up to 34 points.”
PIF spent big in their first transfer window in control of the Magpies, helping Howe in his quest to change the fortunes of the club, from looking a certainty to go down, they now look all but safe.
A couple of months ago, Newcastle fans would have been wincing looking at the league table, but now it is happy reading. They are up to 14th position in the league, holding a 10 point cushion to the drop zone. While not mathematically safe, you’d be surprised to see them go down from here.
