Journalist Lee Ryder noted how Joelinton sent the Newcastle United fans wild after scoring a first-half brace against Norwich City.

Joelinton scored a first-half brace in this afternoon’s fixture, handing the Magpies have a fourth win on the bounce in the Premier League and putting them within touching distance of securing their top-flight status for next season.

The Brazilian man signed for Newcastle United in 2019 from Hoffenheim for £40m and has impressed under Eddie Howe, with the Toon boss opting to play him in midfield rather than as a forward, where he was playing in the early stages of his Magpies carer.

After Joelinton bagged an impressive first-half brace, Ryder highlighted how good the Brazilian man was during the game in a player rating piece for Chronicle Live, awarding his performance to that point a 9/10.

Ryder wrote: “Has made his presence felt. Has twice sent Newcastle fans wild with two different type of goals. One a wonderful curling effort the other a poacher’s tap-in.”

TIF Thoughts on Lee Ryder’s comments…

Joelinton has been superb for Newcastle this season, as he has somewhat revitalised his career after he scored just six goals in 69 Premier League games over the past two seasons as a striker.

There has to be great credit given to Howe after he made the tactical change to make Joelinton feature as a midfielder rather than a striker, where previous managers have been playing him – and it seems his success in a striking role this afternoon could also be put down to his renewed confidence.

With the club’s takeover, the Magpies may be expected to make plenty of changes in the summer transfer window, but after the Brazilian’s impressive displays this term, he may be one of the players who keep his place in the squad and become part of the long-term future – which would be some turnaround.
