Leeds United’s Under-23s took on Premier League 2 leaders Manchester City at Elland Road on Friday night in front of a record-breaking crowd.

Over 20,000 Whites supporters took to the Elland Road stands to cheer on their academy side. They got off to the perfect start, too, taking the lead against the league leaders after six minutes as Mateo Joseph opened the scoring.

It took another six minutes for Leeds to fall behind after goals from Kayky and Cole Palmer completed an almost instant turnaround. Liam Delap completed the scoring late on to secure a 3-1 win for the visitors.

Will Leeds be relegated?

However, one flashpoint in the game occurred when there was some controversy as Crysencio Summerville was cleaned out by City ‘keeper Cieran Slicker at 2-1. The referee deemed it a foul, but only booked the shot-stopper.

From that footage, it is hard to work out whether or not Summerville was fouled, however, the referee gave a decision in Leeds’ favour, so it is surprising he didn’t give Slicker his marching orders, as the Whites forward looked destined to have an open net had the ‘keeper not wiped him out.

Who was sent off in his first game as captain?

If the referee did send him off, there’s no guarantee about how the game would have gone. City could still have gone on to win the game, but you do feel it would have given Leeds more of a chance to salvage something had it been a red.
