Mellisa Reddy has been speaking live on Sky Sports about Manchester United’s search for a new manager.

Manchester United decide to appoint an interim manager in the form of Ralf Rangnick when they sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through this season, and now that they are dropping off the race to finish inside the top four, that could well be a costly decision.

Would Ten Hag be a success at Man United?

No!

While the Red Devils may not finish in the Champions League spots this season, appointing Rangnick has allowed them to take some time to assess their possible options, with reports claiming that an agreement is close between the club and current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag to become their new boss at the end of the season.

Reddy provided an update from Manchester live on Sky Sports, saying: “Last week, sources close to Ten Hag and Ajax told us that compensation had been discussed, that the club spoke through how to handle a formal announcement, because Ajax, remember, are still in a very tight title race.

“And so we expect formalities to be completed soon, no matter how much United are trying to play down the situation.”

TIF Thoughts on Man United’s managerial search…

1 of 10

Manchester United fans, do you remember how many points you picked up in seasons gone by? Let's find out, starting with 2020/21

It appears to be very well documented now that Ten Hag is the number-one candidate and appears likely to become the next manager to sit in the hotseat at Old Trafford, which could be seen as a big risk given he’s never managed a team in a top-flight league outside of the Eredivisie.

The other candidate appeared to be Mauricio Pochettino, who has had the experience of managing in the Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga, so has different kinds of experience to call upon. However, he was always going to be more difficult to prise away from PSG given the two clubs will see each other as direct European rivals.
