Who was sent off in his first game as captain?

Rodrigo has featured regularly this season for Leeds, making 23 appearances in the Premier League, contributing with five goals and one assist prior to this weekend. Leeds find themselves in a relegation battle as we head into the dying stages of the season, sitting just two places above the drop zone before their latest game against Southampton.

Leeds’ poor form this season led to the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa after his side broke the record for the most goals conceded (20) in a single calendar month during his last few weeks in charge at Elland Road.

The sacking of Bielsa meant Jesse Marsch was introduced, and Donnohue highlighted the impact that he has had so far on Rodrigo’s performances after a strong showing in this afternoon’s clash against the Saints.

He wrote: “Rodrigo knitting everything together in the final third today. One-twos, little passes round the corner. He’s all over the place. It’s clear this switch in systems suits him.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Donnohue’s comments…

Rodrigo has had a mixed bag in terms of stats this season. Heading into this weekend, he had a successful dribble rate of just 49%, picked up eight yellow cards and created just two big chances all season, as per SofaScore. However, since the arrival of American boss Jesse Marsch, he has seemingly turned his form around, scoring two goals in his two previous Premier League games.

With the newfound form of Rodrigo, he could be vital for Leeds are they search for Premier League safety in the remainder of the season – especially as Leeds were seriously lacking in the goals department, as they failed to score in four games before their recent run of victories.
