Leeds United’s Junior Firpo has missed the last four games for Leeds through injury, with Paul Robinson criticising the full-back.

And in those last four games, Jesse Marsch has guided Leeds to three wins and a draw, edging them closer to Premier League survival.

Will Rodrigo be a key player for Leeds under Jesse Marsch?

Former Leeds ace, Paul Robinson, has looked at that run of results without Firpo and judged his performances this season to claim he isn’t worthy of a place in the Leeds side and shouldn’t be considered to come back when fit.

In a season that has been far from inspiring from the Leeds defence, Firpo has also struggled in an attacking sense with just the single assist to his name across his 23 appearances (via Transfermarkt).

The former goalkeeper was speaking to MOT Leeds News where he had the following to say on Firpo:

“I don’t think Firpo needs game time, I think he’s been poor and doesn’t deserve game time. I don’t think he’s been good enough this season. I wouldn’t be giving players game time at the detriment of the starting XI.

“It was a strong side against Watford, and the week before, and they got good results. I don’t see a reason to change it just to give players game time, especially somebody who’s been as unreliable as someone like Firpo has been this season.”

TIF thoughts on Robinson’s comments…

Obviously, football is a game of opinions, so if Robinson has been watching Firpo and believes Leeds are better without him than they are with him, that’s fine, he can make that judgement from his own perception of the game.

Which comedian supports the Whites?

Firpo’s disciplinary record has been pretty appalling this season, he has accumulated nine yellow cards in just 19 Premier League outings which is a major concern.

While Leeds could well have improved in recent weeks without Firpo, let’s not forget that they have a new manager who with each week will be getting more of his ideas across to the players and changing things, so while Firpo’s absence could be a factor, it may not be the only one.
