Aston Villa will have a task on their hands in the summer transfer window to keep Matty Cash with interest coming from Spain.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano who was speaking on the future of the £19.8m-rated right-back on his latest episode of the Here We Go podcast.

Would you sell Cash in the summer?

Atletico Madrid are the side being tipped with a potential move for the Polish international with previous links to Cash coming in the January transfer window.

Cash has had an impressive 2021/22 campaign to date with his form in recent weeks really picking up in front of goal with two goals and two assists in his last four league games (via Transfermarkt).

There are still over three years remaining on the right-back’s contract with Villa but Romano believes Cash is top of Diego Simeone’s list for the summer:

(24:45) “I want to say again about Matty Cash and Atletico Madrid because it was already news in February, but I wanted to say again because he’s still top of the list for Atletico Madrid at right-back. And so it’s a serious, serious possibility for Atletico.”

TIF Thoughts on Cash’s future…

The stock in Cash certainly will be rising at the moment with the 24-year-old showing some superb form in the Premier League under Steven Gerrard.

And with Kieran Trippier leaving Atletico in January it seems Simeone is looking to find his replacement with another Premier League right-back being tipped in the form of the Villa man.

Given Cash has performed so well under Gerrard, creeping into the top three for player ratings, averaging 2.4 clearances per game, 1 dribble per game, 1.5 interceptions per game (as per WhoScored), it’ll be interesting to see what Aston Villa do should the Spanish side actually come calling in the summer.
