Football journalist Gregg Evans has claimed that Aston Villa won’t loan Cameron Archer to a Premier League club next season.

As of now, the 20-year-old striker has been rather impressive during his current loan spell. Indeed, in his first 10 Championship outings for Preston North End, he has netted five goals.

With that in mind, some may feel as though the youngster could make the step up to Premier League football next season. However, while talking about Archer on the 1874 Aston Villa podcast, Evans said the club will not loan him to another team in the top division.

Will Aston Villa make the top eight this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

He explained: “It’s really interesting now to see what happens.

“Look, Villa aren’t in a position to loan him to another Premier League team, that’s not going to happen. It’s just not going to happen.

“Villa aren’t in that position, you know, they’re not an elite team, so they can’t be seen to be strengthening, so to speak, other clubs in the Premier League. And I don’t think for one minute they’ll do that.

“I think if Cameron Archer does go out on loan next season, it will be to another Championship club – maybe for the first half of the season, with a view to coming back in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Cameron Archer and Aston Villa…

When you look at the goals he has already scored in the Championship, added to the fact that he netted four times in two League Cup games for the senior Villa side this season, it would be fair to feel that Archer deserves a shot at Premier League football next term.

However, at the moment, the Villans already have Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings as their top two senior strikers, so game time would be limited. With that in mind, a loan deal may be best for the youngster’s development.

It’s interesting to hear Evans state that the club would be wary of loaning Archer out to a rival club, so we will have to wait and see where he ends up next season. If it is in the Premier League, it looks like he’ll be wearing a Villa shirt.
