Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has slammed Harry Winks for his FA Cup display on Tuesday night as Spurs crashed out.

It was a miserable night for the Lilywhites on Teeside as Antonio Conte’s hopes of bringing silverware to north London this season were brought to an end.

Should Winks be sold in the summer?

Tottenham were beaten by Championship side Middlesbrough in extra time and it was apparent Gold was not left impressed with the performance of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Winks played on the weekend against Leeds United and impressed having had an influential role in the opening goal of the game, however, the same could not be said for his performance at the Riverside Stadium.

It was an anonymous display from the 25-year-old who failed to register a single tackle throughout the 120 minutes of action, as well as being dribbled past five times and Gold was clearly far from inspired by Winks’ display:

“Some sloppy passing at times and left chasing shadows when Boro broke quickly. Not one of his better game,” Gold wrote for football.london.

TIF Thoughts on Winks’ display…

Winks’ future has been widely speculated over recent months and it is performances such as this that is probably why he has failed to nail down a spot in the starting XI on a consistent basis.

There is no doubt the full team is to blame for the result on Tuesday night, however, it is apparent Winks offered very little in both an attacking or defensive sense.

Winks provided just one key pass throughout the two hours of action on Tuesday, was dispossessed 14 times and did not attempt a single dribble (via SofaScore).

Not only did Winks fail to register a tackle on the night but he was also dribbled past five times as the Championship side sailed through Tottenham’s midfield on a number of occasions.
