Transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch may be looking to sign somebody to compete for a place with Junior Firpo.

Junior Firpo has featured sparingly for Leeds United this season due to injury issues. He has made 19 appearances in the Premier League with four of those coming off the bench.

Stuart Dallas has featured in several positions this season for his side, whilst starting in every Premier League game, and he has been the man to replace Firpo on the left-hand side when he has been sidelined.

Now, after his latest injury, it appears as if Jesse Marsch has grown frustrated with him, as whilst talking to GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones highlighted that Leeds may look to bring in competition for him next season.

“You would imagine they might even look to sign somebody else to compete with him for next season,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Junior Firpo and Dean Jones’ comments…

In an attacking sense Firpo, who is valued at £10.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), hasn’t been as influential going forward as many may have hoped, as he has a success rate of just 24% when it comes to accurate crosses. However, one positive on the defensive side is that he’s made zero errors that have led to goals (Sofascore).

Stuart Dallas on the other hand, who has occupied the left-back role at times as mentioned above, has been a bit more influential. When comparing the two players’ stats, Dallas has created five big chances this season compared to Firpo’s one and the Northern Irishman also has more clearances on average per game for his side.

With Jones claiming that there might be a defender brought in by Marsch in the summer to add competition for Firpo, this could go one of two ways, it could see the 25-year-old be forced out of the side, or see him reach new levels for Leeds, so it could be deemed as a smart move from the American boss either way.
