Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has posted an encouraging video on his Instagram account of him getting back from injury.

It’s fair to say that the 31-year-old England defender was able to make quite the impact at St James’ Park after signing in the January transfer window.

In just five appearances for the club before suffering an injury against Aston Villa, he managed to grab two goals. Elsewhere, he performed to such a level that he still leads the team in tackles, interceptions and crosses per match, whilst ranking joint-third for key passes per game (via WhoScored), this despite not being part of the side for six games.

A recent report from the Telegraph claimed that his injury nightmare is set to be over pretty soon though, as they claim he will be back next month ahead of what could be some critical games against Crystal Palace and Norwich that could play a big part in securing their place in the top flight.

And it looks as if he’s well on the road to recovery as he posted a video on his Instagram story which showed him on an exercise bike during the club’s warm-weather training in Dubai alongside the caption ‘Stepping training up. Can’t wait to be back’:

Will Trippier play for Newcastle again this season?

There’s no doubting how important he was to Newcastle United in the early days of their recent run of form that has dragged them out of the relegation battle, so to see him back and well on the road to full fitness will surely be a sight that many fans will be delighted by.

Of course by that time results might have gone in their favour to such an extent that the club don’t need to rush him back and bring him back into the side, risking him getting reinjured and potentially jeopardising him ahead of next season.

It will certainly be interesting to see how his recovery is handled by the club as they weigh up the short-term benefits up against the long-term ones.
