Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that January signing Aaron Ramsey could be vital for Rangers as they look to push for back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles.

Ramsey signed for Rangers in January on an initial loan deal until the end of the 2021/22 season but is yet to start in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers since his move to Scotland.

The Welshman was hugely out of favour this season for Juventus, having featured just three times in the Serie A this campaign, according to Transfermarkt.

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport that Ramsey could be “vital” for Rangers in the remainder of the SPFL season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He said: “So, for Rangers fans, they’ll be hoping he can get fit and be ready and available for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, especially coming into the closing end of the season when somebody with Ramsey’s X-factor and experience could be vital in where the destiny of the title does end up.”

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

Ramsey has been labelled as someone who ‘has been a world-class player’ by fellow Welshman John Hartson, but he is now 31 years old and hasn’t had regular football in quite some time, having only featured sporadically for Juventus this season.

Rangers have had a lack of quality in their side at times this season, and if Ramsey can get a run of games, producing form similar to when he was at Arsenal that earned him the initial move to Juventus, Rangers certainly have a chance of catching rivals Celtic in the title race.

Ramsey has 478 senior career appearances, so could offer valuable experience to the Rangers midfield as they head into the business end of the season to try and claim a second consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
