Rangers writer Derek Clark has claimed that manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst ‘could still do a job’ if he turned out for the club today.

With the international break upon us, domestic football has enjoyed a little break in recent times. Ibrox fans’ thirst for action were at least somewhat quenched over the weekend as some Rangers legends took on a World XI to help celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary and raise money for Luis Figo’s charity foundation.

Interestingly enough, one of the retired footballers who really caught the eye happened to be the man who is currently in charge of the Scottish club right now.

Indeed, having watched the game, Clark could not help but make a pretty big claim about the Dutchman, saying on Twitter: “Main takeaway from the Legends game: Gio could still do a job today, an absolute Rolls Royce of a player.”

TIF Thoughts on Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers…

Of course, Van Bronckhorst is well accustomed to Ibrox and won the league on a couple of occasions as a Gers player. That he spent time and won trophies with other huge European clubs such as Barcelona and Arsenal proves just what a player he was.

Will Giovanni van Bronckhorst succeed at Rangers?

Yes

No

No

And it seems Clark wasn’t the only one to notice his remaining quality. The Daily Record highlighted a ‘brilliant tackle’ he made on Michel Salgado as one of the moments of the game.

Still, with the league race still tight at the top – three points separate Rangers from rivals Celtic – fans will be more worried about his quality as a manager than a footballer right now.
