Willie Miller has said that he was impressed with 21-year-old Rangers midfielder James Sands after the 3-0 victory over Dundee United on Sunday.
James Sands is a young midfielder who joined Rangers in January from MLS side New York City FC on an 18-month loan deal, according to Transfermarkt.
The American midfielder has featured six times for Gers since his loan move and played 90 minutes in his side’s 3-0 triumph against Dundee United on Sunday in the SFA Cup.
On the Sportsound Podcast Willie Miller noted after the game what he thought Sands did well and said that he was “impressed” with him.
(33:16) “He (James sands) picks everything up, he keeps it simple, he plays the passes, he keeps the ball moving and rolling and going forward, there wasn’t backward or sideways passing all the time, you know most of his passes were forward-thinking, not truest direct but, you know with the intent of the team going forward, rather than just keeping possession so I was quite impressed with him,” Miller said.
TIF Thoughts on James Sands…
James Sands has had to wait patiently for his game time with Rangers since signing on loan in January as he has been an unused substitute ten times under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, as per Sofascore.
It may be risky for Van Bronckhorst to put a 21-year-old into the starting XI in the SPFL as Rangers look to chase rivals Celtic, but when he has featured in the league for his side, he performed well and in his debut against Aberdeen, he was given a 7 rating by Sofascore.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has praised the 21-year-old for his performances so far in a Rangers shirt, and after his display on Sunday, we could see more regular game time for the American in the latter stages of the season.
