Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer has been linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership with Celtic showing interest in the Dutch midfielder.

Hamer has been a key performer for Coventry in the Championship this season, scoring twice, and assisting six times in 27 games from defensive midfield, as per Transfermarkt.

This form has caught the attention of Celtic, and he has been valued at £5 million which is well within the price range of the Hoops, according to Vital Celtic.

Hamer was asked about the situation in February and responded in a way that didn’t count out any move away from Coventry.

“I haven’t spoken to my agent yet but he has said they are talking, so that’s fine and we see what will come and what will happen next season,” Hamer said

With Hamer being linked to a move to Celtic, there are a few knock-on effects if the club are able to complete the deal.

Partnership with Reo Hatate

Ange Postecoglou acquired the services of Reo Hatate in January as he sets to build a team of players that suit the way he wants to play. He has performed well so far in a Celtic shirt, scoring three times, and assisting twice in nine games, according to Transfermarkt.

According to Whoscored, Hatate is a midfielder who likes to dribble with the ball and has an eye for a pass, whilst Hamer’s traits are ball interception and also passing, so the pairing could complement each other in midfield well.

With both players being just 24-years-old, they would have a lot of time to develop as players under Ange’s playing style which could lead to a great partnership in the heart of midfield.

Replacement for Nir Bitton?

Nir Bitton joined Celtic in 2013 but has been in poor form this season. He has failed to achieve a match rating of seven or above in his any of his previous six games for Celtic, as per Sofascore.

On the other hand, Hamer has an average rating of 7.12 over the past five games, including an 8.4 rating against Reading and an eight rating against Bristol City.

Bitton is coming towards the latter stages of his career at 30-years-old, and the “unbelievable” Hamer is just 24-years-old so he could be an adequate replacement for the Israel international in the long-run.
