Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Cristian Romero has returned to Tottenham Hotspur training fully fit after the international break.

During a previous outing for Argentina at the end of last year, the defender picked up a bad hamstring injury that caused him to miss a number of Spurs games.

With that in mind, fans would have been fearing the worst when he jetted off across the globe this time around. To make things worse, he travelled out of England with the hope of having a prior suspension lifted so he could play for Argentina. That ban was upheld, however, meaning he made his trip for no reason at all.

Is Cristian Romero Spurs' best defender?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Despite all the drama, Gold was happy to tell his YouTube channel they consider the whole situation ‘a win’ as Romero should still be fit to play in the club’s next game.

He said: “Cristian Romero’s back at Hotspur Way today. I think he’s going to hopefully do a bit of training as well. Obviously, he wasn’t able to get his suspension overturned – or Argentina were not.

“So he went all the way over to Argentina for absolutely nothing. But hey, it’s an international break for Cristian Romero, where he hasn’t returned injured, suspended, quarantining, so it’s a win.”

TIF Thoughts on Cristian Romero and Spurs…

With just nine games left in their season, Tottenham have a bit of catching up to do if they are to finish in the top four and claim a Champions League spot. Indeed, they remain three points off Arsenal – though the Gunners also have a game in hand over their north London rivals.

Romero has been a favourite of manager Antonio Conte so far, with the defender starting every Premier League game under the Italian when fit, and will likely play a key part in the club’s run-in.

With that in mind, he may have been frustrated to see such an important player depart for no reason during the international break.

At the very least, however, as Romero has not picked up any injuries, perhaps Conte will follow Gold’s advice and consider it a ‘win’.
