Spurs suffered a major setback in their hunt for Champions League qualification come the end of the season, losing 3-2 to a major rival for that 4th spot in Manchester United.

Spurs went behind twice to Cristiano Ronaldo goals. First Harry Kane levelled from a spot kick before a Harry Maguire own goal set up a tense finish with the game level at 2-2. Ronaldo stepped up late on to convert from a corner, securing his hattrick and the three points.

Spurs had the better of the attacking play though, but were unable to make it pay, with Heung-min Son missing one of the better chances.

Alasdair Gold noticed this and slammed the South Korean in his match ratings: “Another quiet performance and he wasted a big chance near the hour mark with a low unmarked shot wide of goal. Slipped over on a couple of occasions during good moves in the second half as if he had the wrong type of studs on. Seems to have lost his confidence.”

He gave him a 4/10, the lowest any Spurs player got from the journalist for the game, showing how he wasn’t at his usual brilliant best.

His seven crosses throughout the game only saw one completed while he also lost possession 13 times, provided no key passes, had no shots on target and made zero tackles too – but the main issue of course was that chance he missed, you’d back Son from there every day of the week when he’s on song.

The result now leaves Spurs with a mini mountain to climb in the hunt for the top four, especially with Arsenal already ahead with games in hand.
