There was no hiding in the January transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur who somewhat had a window to forget, missing out on key targets, and leaving their Italian manager incredibly unhappy despite a couple of notable additions.

Antonio Conte will be looking to make improvements to his squad in the summer, hopefully with more success with his main targets compared to the first window he had.

He’ll be desperate to keep his key players too, something that might not be too straightforward with current reports suggesting there is plenty of interest in important players. Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho wants to bring Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Roma with him.

Jose Mourinho to haunt Spurs?

The fact Mourinho wants Hojbjerg sums up how much the Portuguese manager rates him as a player. It’s always a clear sign of a good relationship and admiration of a player’s game when a manager wants players to follow them to a new club.

You’d imagine that Mourinho must have a good relationship with him if he is that desperate to bring him to Roma, so there is a good chance the move would appeal to the Denmark international.

Should Mourinho come back to haunt his old club it’ll leave Spurs short in midfield, needing to replace a key member of the side. Who knows, it could open the door for further players to go and link up with their former manager in Italy.

Antonio Conte’s Headache

If Hojbjerg were to leave for Roma, it would leave Conte with major problems in the summer. This season has already seen him lose Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele, who we know he didn’t fancy. However, he only managed to get Rodrigo Bentancur through the door so they are already short in midfield.

Hojbjerg has been a key member of the Spurs side this season, playing a total of 39 games for Conte already. That sort of reliability can’t be taken for granted and you can expect that the Italian won’t be wanting to find a replacement.

He’s only been booked twice this season – that level of consistency and discipline for a holding midfield player is vital. It keeps him available at all times and prevents the risk of letting his team down with reckless challenges.
