Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is at the top of the list for Newcastle United in the summer.

Dean Henderson has been seriously out of favour this season for Manchester United and has not featured at all in the Premier League for his side. He played a large period in the second half of last season, but still only managed to make 12 Premier League starts.

The English keeper was linked with a move to Newcastle in January as he would have hoped to save his season, but a deal failed to go through. However, there are reports that he is still on the radar for Newcastle in the summer, as they look to bring in a new haul of players.

Dean Jones spoke to GIVEMESPORT and reiterated the interest regarding Henderson from Newcastle in the summer.

“At the moment, he is the frontrunner in terms of priorities for a new goalkeeper. I just hope that it all pans out in a way that they can get it done this time because he has been on their radar for a little while now,” Jones said.

PIF making smart moves

Dean Henderson is a goalkeeper who will be keen to leave Old Trafford if he isn’t promised regular game time, and after his lack of minutes this season, he is certainly deemed as second best behind David de Gea.

His current market value is just £16.5 million, according to Transfermarkt, and with him being just 25-years-old, he could be a cheap option for PIF, whilst still potentially having 10 plus years left in his playing career.

The fact he’s in the England equation as well would of course also add to the club’s homegrown mix.

Howe solves problem position

So far this season, the number 1 spot for the Magpies has been somewhat undecided, after Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka have shared the role in the Newcastle net. The former has featured eight times in the Premier League and the latter has made 17 league appearances, so it is unclear who is the standout first-choice keeper.

By bringing in Dean Henderson, this would save this issue, as he would almost definitely be the first-choice, leaving one of the two current keepers to become a firm number 2 with the other potentially being shown the door at St James’s Park.

With neither Darlow and Dubravka being entirely convincing either, Henderson could come straight in and claim that number one spot.
