Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will likely be embarrassed after Harry Kane took a shocking free kick in the recent loss to Middlesbrough.

In their fifth-round FA Cup tie, Spurs fell to defeat against Chris Wilder’s men after a single goal in extra time from 19-year-old striker Josh Coburn was enough to settle the affair.

However, the game did not pass by without Antonio Conte’s men having their chances. Indeed, Kane even put the ball in the back of the net at one stage, only for it to be ruled out by a marginal offside decision.

Beyond that, the striker also had a chance to open the scoring for a great free kick position.

49 minutes into the game, the England captain stepped up to hit the ball, slipped as he struck it, and managed to send his effort slowly bobbling into the foot of the Middlesbrough wall.

The Match of the Day Twitter page shared footage of the incident and the poor attempt is likely to leave Spurs fans with their heads in their hands.

TIF Thoughts on Harry Kane and Tottenham…

It’s interesting to see that in the Match of the Day tweet, they quote the commentator as highlighting Kane’s poor record at free kicks when he said: “Kane and free-kicks is not a recipe that goes together massively successfully…”

He certainly has a point, too. Despite being a ‘regular on free-kick duty’, the Three Lions ace scored his only goal direct from a set piece all the way back in 2014/15, when he netted against Aston Villa.

No doubt, seeing that chance go begging will have left plenty of Tottenham fans rather unhappy with Conte allowing the 28-year-old to take the set piece.

To make it worse, their club went on to lose the tie – meaning Spurs’ wait goes on for a first FA Cup since 1991, which is two years before Kane was born.
