Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will likely be exasperated after Harry Kane had a goal ruled out for offside in the clash with Middlesbrough.

In their fifth-round FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough, with the scores still level at 0-0, the England striker had the ball in the back of the net and was indeed wheeling away in celebration only for the offside flag to go up and rule out his strike.

Was it right for Spurs to keep Harry Kane this summer?

No

No

The decision seemed tight as he flicked the ball in from close range following a corner. But with no VAR in use at the ground, the goal was not checked.

Indeed, one angle from a replay – shared online by Twitter user @TheTrevorDurham (originated from BBC live coverage) – seemed to show that Kane was in fact onside, or it was at least extremely tight.

TIF thoughts on Harry Kane and Tottenham…

Had that goal been awarded, it would have been Kane’s 19th goal of the season in all competitions. That he has scored so many goals, despite being criticised heavily in the early stages of the season for his poor form, really does show how prolific he is.

Indeed, across the span of his whole career with Tottenham, he has scored an incredible 239 times in 372 appearances. For all that talent, however, he is of course still to lift a major piece of silverware in the course of his career.

And with Spurs fans, and their key man, no doubt so desperate to win something major in the near future, this disallowed goal would have been hugely frustrating. Sometimes, on cup runs, you need that little slice of luck – on this occasion, unfortunately, Kane just didn’t get the rub of the green.
