Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will have been left worried after the FA Cup loss during the week because of Antonio Conte’s post-game reaction.

That is according to Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on his latest YouTube video following the game against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Do you think Conte will be backed in the summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The defeat on Teesside saw the Lilywhites dumped out of the FA Cup and the Italian manager was left laughing in his post-match press conference.

Conte’s reaction at the Riverside Stadium was a stark contrast to the furious reaction he showed following their defeat against Burnley just six days prior.

And Gold feels the 52-year-old’s acceptance of Tottenham’s recent inconsistency in results may be the biggest worry to the chairman.

He said: “A manager like Conte, with everything that he expects from his football club and what he wants to do, having him saying the words ‘hope’, ‘persevere’, ‘not wait for a long time’ – they’re not the words that he’s used to using.

“And this is what worries me about this summer, because I think Levy will be worried more about the fact that Conte wasn’t angry and raging. Because if you remember, Conte said the other day, ‘if I’m angry, it’s because I care’. And I just, you know, when you look at stuff like that, is he starting to feel like, ‘I think I’ve made a mistake’, and stuff like that?”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s reaction…

Spurs have been incredibly inconsistent recently with just about every win followed up by a defeat since the turn of the year, in which they have won six games and lost seven across all competitions.

However, we do share a similar concern to Gold in thinking Conte has possibly come to the conclusion of trying everything with this set of players and not being able to achieve what he wants without backing in the transfer window.

Spurs bounced back from their defeat to Burnley with a brilliant win against Leeds United, but then had their hopes of silverware shattered by a Championship outfit.

Although Gold claims Levy may be worried by Conte’s reaction, the power to solve Conte’s frustrations lies in Levy’s hands over the summer, so we will be interested to see how Spurs act in the transfer market.
