Antonio Conte could be boosted next week by the possible return of Rodrigo Bentancur from his injury issues for Monday night’s game.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been out of action for the last two games after picking up an injury during the Lilywhites’ defeat away to Burnley.

Should Bentancur come straight back into the XI?

Bentancur was withdrawn at half-time in the game at Turf Moor after slipping and overstretching, but it seems he could return for the game against Everton.

The game on Tuesday night saw Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks ripped apart by Championship outfit Middlesbrough as Spurs were dumped out of the FA Cup.

And with Spurs struggling with a lack of consistency from the midfield pairing, Gold provided a positive update on the potential return of Bentancur on the latest Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

He said: “I think the midfield battle is where they really lost it and yeah, I think they’re gonna get a lot of flak. And I think Winks, well, both of them to be honest – I think Hojbjerg is now getting his own scapegoat/anti-fan club, as it were.

“And I think for Conte, Bentancur – he’s hoping to have him back for the Everton match.”

TIF Thoughts on Rodrigo Bentancur’s possible return…

The game on Tuesday night was one to forget for the Spurs team, however, we are not sure whether Conte will be able to forget the performance of the midfield duo on Teesside.

Hojbjerg and Winks managed just two tackles between them on the night, with the latter not managing any at all as the pair scored just a 4/10 rating from Alasdair Gold (via SofaScore).

Since arriving in north London, Bentancur had become a regular feature in the Spurs XI and we think he could return to the starting lineup if he is fit enough come Monday.

So we learned before the Middlesbrough game that Bentancur was likely to be fit for Everton. So everyone knows that. However Alastair ‘I know nothing that you don’t’ Gold breaks this news 3 days later.
