Antonio Conte has hinted he is set to keep Ryan Sessegnon in his starting XI on Monday night for Tottenham Hotspur’s latest Premier League clash.

That is according to Alasdair Gold, who has been reacting to the Italian’s latest quotes ahead of the game in north London against Everton.

Who would you start against Everton?

Sessegnon has now started the last four Premier League games under Conte, with Sergio Reguilon struggling due to the virus in recent weeks.

And despite the Spaniard making his return to the squad just under two weeks ago against Burnley, the 25-year-old has been unable to retain his spot in the starting XI.

Reguilon has been Tottenham’s main left wing-back this season with 19 appearances in the Premier League, but Gold feels Conte will keep Sessegnon in the XI on Monday night:

Gold wrote for football.london: “Conte appeared to hint to football.london on Friday that he will stick with Ryan Sessegnon at left wing-back and that Sergio Reguilon will have to win his place back after suffering a few after-effects from his bout of Covid.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We find Conte’s selection at left wing-back a really interesting one for tonight. Neither of the two players has excelled this season under the Italian, but Reguilon has been the usual starter since arriving in 2020.

This term, Sessegnon has only been able to provide one assist in eight league appearances and Reguilon just the three in 19 league appearances.

So with the Spaniard back in the squad, we would expect him to return straight to the starting lineup, with Sessegnon not exactly setting the league alight.

However, with rumours surrounding a potential contract extension for the 21-year-old, Monday’s game could be a real sign as to how Conte views his starting XI for the remainder of the season.
