Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to sign Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij in the summer, no matter what the price.

De Vrij is a central defender for Inter Milan who has been a mainstay in their side this season after featuring 22 times in the Serie A, as per Transfermarkt.

The Dutch defender has been linked with a move away from Inter in the summer and the main club concerned is Spurs.

O’Rourke spoke to GIVEMESPORT and has claimed that no matter what the price, Antonio Conte will be interested in the signature of the 30-year-old defender.

“Definitely. They would be interested in De Vrij whatever the price tag is.” O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT.

What knock-on effects would the introduction of De Vrij have at Spurs?

Partner for Romero?

Cristian Romero was brought into the Spurs from Atalanta in the summer but has endured some real injury issues. But Spurs’ big-money move for the Argentine and his recent performances indicate that once fit, he will be a regular in the side.

De Vrij is a well-praised experienced central defender, and when Spurs boss Conte coached the Dutch defender in the past at Inter Milan, he praised the defender and compared him to Italian legend Leonardo Bonucci.

Cristian Romero is just 23-years-old so still has time to develop as a player, and De Vrij could be a suitable partner for the Argentine as he can learn from the Netherlands international’s experience.

Replacement for Davinson Sanchez?

Davinson Sanchez has been in poor form this season for Spurs and come under scrutiny at times from pundits for his “shocking” displays. For example, Jermaine Jenas highlighted the Colombian in Spurs’ 2-0 away defeat against Wolves in February.

The https://football-observatory.com/-values-48162£12m-rated De Vrij has great experience in the Champions League for Inter Milan, and if Spurs want to progress as a club, then they need to bring in this calibre of player and get rid of some of the deadwood such as Sanchez, who has struggled to find form in recent times for Spurs.
