Leeds United recently appointed Jesse Marsch as the club’s new manager after parting ways with Marcelo Bielsa after he oversaw a 4-0 loss to Spurs.

Results have been a real cause for concern at Leeds in recent weeks, with player performances leaving much to be desired too. Even Raphinha wasn’t exempt, being hooked at half time against Everton recently, showing how big the problems are at Leeds and how deep they run.

Will Marsch keep Leeds in the Premier League?

Yes!

No!

Former Leeds man Rio Ferdinand was in the BT Sport studio ahead of Jesse Marsch’s opening game in charge of the Whites against Leicester on Saturday aftermoon. He was extremely excited to see what the American could do with the current crop of players at Elland Road.

He was discussing the impact he could have, saying the following: “Now I think, the way he plays, people like Raphinha will be able to not be seen defending as much. Harrison the same. Now they’ll be getting 20% more at the sharp end of the pitch. Rodrigo especially, has only known following defensive midfielders around the pitch. Hopefully now, he’ll be able to stay at the top of the pitch and be someone who is decisive and finish a game.”

While the defensive record clearly needs improving, Ferdinand is looking forward to the attacking players having more freedom and to be advanced up the pitch. There’s no doubt the likes of Raphinha and Rodrigo are much better in attack than they are in defence.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

That being said, Marsch will have to improve the Whites all over the pitch, and not only do they need to be more expressive in attack according to the former defender, but the defence needs to tighten up too. If you concede the most goals in the league, survival is always going to be a huge ask.
