Football Daily and Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has urged Antonio Conte to pair Oliver Skipp with Rodrigo Bentancur in the Tottenham Hotspur midfield.

This January, Spurs signed the Urguyuan from Juventus for a fee that could rise to as much as £21.5m. Since putting pen to paper a four-and-a-half-year contract, it’s fair to say the 24-year-old has impressed with teammate Son Heung-min praising him for having a ‘great work rate and a great attitude’ (via football.london).

However, while discussing the player on Football Daily, Thomlinson suggested that Bentancur could reach his best form alongside Oliver Skipp in the middle of the park.

He said: “There’s another man they signed in January, another L [loss] for Juventus, that you love: Bentancur.

“I mean, he’s got a bit, doesn’t he? I want to see Bentancur and Skipp in that midfield.”

TIF thoughts on Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp and Tottenham…

Having made his Premier League debut against Southampton, Bentancur has yet to line up alongside Skipp who has not played for the club since then due to injury
Before that, however, the Englishman had started 14 league games for Spurs as he looked to establish himself as a first-team regular under Conte. He had seemed to impress the Italian too, with his manager suggesting he could become a top player.
He told the Evening Standard: “I think that the present and the future depends on him [Skipp]. If he wants to become a top midfielder. He could become a top midfielder, but he has to continue to work.”

Bentancur has now started Tottenham’s last four league games in a row. He quality has been evident too, with Spurs winning three of those matches.
If Conte can find a way to combine the talents of the duo in the heart of his team, perhaps the club will be successful in their push for Champions League football.
