Insider ExWHUemployee has stated that West Ham United are interested in signing left-back Aaron Hickey in the summer.

So far this season, the Scottish left-back has drawn plenty of headlines as he impresses with Italian outfit Bologna – who he opted to sign for in 2022 ahead of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

His form in recent time has been enough to see him rewarded with a first international call up this month, and it looks as though he could make the news again this summer with stories regarding his future already emerging.

Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex stated that Hickey is very highly-rated and is a potential transfer target for the near future.

He said (01:12:44): Another player that we’ve been watching as well is a young left-back called Aaron Hickey. I’ve said this before, so it’s not new players, but he currently plays with [Marko] Arnautovic at Bologna.

“And he’s randomly a Scottish left-back they signed him from Hearts, I think. And Bayern Munich were in for him at the same time, but he chose to go to Bologna because Bologna promised him first-team football.

“He’s smashed it up in Italy, is very highly rated. People talk of him as being on a par with Andrew Robertson. Obviously, Liverpool’s Scottish left-back, and there’s interest in him potentially in the summer.”

TIF thoughts on Aaron Hickey and West Ham…

The 19-year-old has always been ‘destined for great things’ according to the Guardian writer Ewan Murray and after impressing in Serie A at such a young age, he eventually may find himself representing a Premier League club in England.

Should West Ham try to sign Aaron Hickey?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Of course, the youngster may have no intention of leaving Italy, nor any plans to move to West Ham – especially with clubs as big as Bayern having past links, and comparisons being made with the likes of Andy Robertson.

However, it certainly seems as though West Ham would be chasing a top talent if they did decide to try and pursue a deal in the summer, as Ex suggests they could.

With that in mind, this could be a story to keep an eye on this summer.
