Phil Hay has dropped a potentially exciting update on the fitness of Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips and their chances of playing for Leeds United this evening.

Leeds United and Jesse Marsch will be rather excited for tonight’s game given they won their last match in stunning fashion and could be set to see all of Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper back in the side.

Should Cooper start tonight?

Yes!

No!

No!

While Bamford started last weekend, he was only able to play 45 minutes before being hooked off by Jesse Marsch, likely due to the fact he hadn’t played any football since December which was only 22 minutes against Brentford.

However, it could be the Leeds captain that is set for a big role tonight as Hay has claimed on The Phil Hay Show.

(40:01) “Cooper has been back a little bit longer so I think more likelihood of him being involved in a bigger way than Phillips. I do wonder if we might see both, given 20 players, you can play with in a squad, I do wonder if we’ll see both of them back in there.”

TIF Thoughts on Cooper…

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

For any team to be without their captain for several months would be a major blow, but for a side that has such a thin squad, which was what their former manager wanted to work with, it will have been seriously difficult for Leeds to function without such a crucial member for the squad.

Cooper is 31-years old but given how well Leeds performed last season with him playing the majority of league games, compared to this season when he’s missed more than he’s played, he’s still someone that they desperately need fit and firing to be at their best.
